Privacy Policy

Visio is a gallery, not a service. It has no account, no server of ours, and no copy of your library. This page says exactly what that means.

Your photos

Visio reads the photos and videos already on your device so it can show them, label them and group them. All of that work happens on the device. No photo, video, thumbnail or face is uploaded, and there is nowhere for us to upload it to.

What the app does send

Three things use the network, and none of them carry a picture:

• Map tiles are fetched from Google Maps when you open the map.
• When a photo has coordinates, those coordinates go to the geocoder built into your phone — Apple's on iOS, Google's on Android — to get a place name back.
• Anonymous crash reports and usage counts go to Firebase, so we can tell what breaks and what gets used.

Permissions

Photo library access is required, because without it there is nothing to show. Location is not requested; the coordinates Visio uses are the ones your camera already wrote into the file. You can withdraw access at any time in system settings, and Visio will stop reading the library.

People and faces

Face grouping is off until you turn it on in Settings. Until then nothing about faces is collected at all.

When it is on, Visio finds the faces in the photos already on your device and, for each one, stores a mathematical description of it — a list of numbers — together with where in the photo it sat. The face itself is never stored: no crop, no thumbnail, no copy of the picture. Those numbers are what lets Visio tell that two photographs show the same person. They are computed on your device by a model that ships inside the app, and they are not sent anywhere. Visio recognizes no one and holds no list of known people; every name is one you typed.

All of it lives in Visio's own storage on your phone, for as long as the feature is on and the app is installed. It is included in your own device backup, the same as the app's other data — that backup is yours, and we cannot reach it. Nothing is shared with anyone, because nothing leaves the device.

Turning People off in Settings deletes every face and every person Visio found on this phone, straight away. Your photos are untouched. Deleting the app takes the rest with it.

Where it is kept

Because nothing is uploaded, there is no database of ours that could be breached. Your photos, the labels, the face groups and the names you give them are files on your own device, behind its lock screen and its encryption. The three things that do use the network travel over HTTPS. Delete the app and everything it made goes with it.

What you can change

Photo library access can be withdrawn at any time in system settings. Turning People off in Settings deletes every face and every person Visio found on this phone, and leaves your photos untouched. There is no account to close and no copy of your library for us to hand over or erase, because we never received one. The anonymous crash and usage counts cannot be switched off inside the app today.

Children

Visio is rated 4+ and is not directed at children under 13. It asks for no name, no email and no account, and the only thing it sends is the anonymous counts described above, so there is nothing about a child for it to collect. If you believe otherwise, write to us and we will look into it.

Third parties

Google receives the map tile requests when you open the map, and the anonymous crash and usage counts through Firebase. The place-name lookup goes to whichever geocoder your phone provides: Apple's on iOS, Google's on Android. Their own policies apply to what reaches them. Nothing else is involved — the labelling and the face grouping run on the device and send nothing.

This website

This page uses Google Analytics to count visits. It sets a cookie and records which page you opened, your browser, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. It is not used for advertising and it is not connected to the app in any way. Blocking it changes nothing about the site.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new text appears on this page, and the change takes effect once it is posted. There is no mailing list to notify, because there are no accounts.
